The Storyteller

Genevieve Aichele’s storytelling career began at the age of 8 when she was cast as the Narrator in a Brownie troupe performance.

Beloved childhood books included a book of Chinese fairy tales, Tales from Shakespeare by Charles & Mary Lamb, and Danny Kaye’s Stories from Many Lands.

Genevieve has incorporated storytelling into every aspect of her performing and teaching career. She has performed both personal and traditional stories solo and in collaboration with other artists, and has produced the New Hampshire Theatre Project Storytelling Festival since 2017.

Genevieve currently tours with musician Randy Armstrong in World Tales, and their two recordings have received national and international acclaim. www.armstrongandaichele.com

Digging For Gold: Mythologizing Personal Stories

In programs like Moth Radio, people are encouraged to tell their life stories but, just like traditional myths and legends, these “true tales” can also become powerful tools for healing, teaching, inspiring and community-building. Explore techniques from traditional folktales, docu-drama and applied theatre to transform personal tales into stories both universal and archetypal.

Introduction to Storytelling Techniques

What makes a good story? What makes a good storyteller? Participants will explore story structure, and the use of imagery, metaphor, action and dialogue, along with presentation and public speaking tips. Additional focus on finding resource material, learning traditional tales, exploring your own personal style of telling, using traditional bardic riffs and storytelling rituals, creating vivid imagery, characters, action, and dialogue.

Creating Vocal Characters

Learn simple techniques that every professional performer depends on – how to project your voice without straining, how to speak clearly, find your most powerful vocal tone, and the art of breathing properly. Explore different ways to create unique characters through tone, resonance, placement, volume and diction. Tips for vocal health too!

Yesterday’s performance was wonderful beyond expectation, simply mesmerizing. The haunting music played on those exotic instruments, the dramatic and evocative storytelling (folktales of the past but only too timely!), the rich costuming and, Genevieve, the very way you move, and then that special ability to engage your audience…the effect was powerful and riveting.
