Writer/Playwright

Throughout my childhood, I directed siblings and friends in plays - mostly  written or adapted by me - entertaining our families with comedy, cabaret and a smattering of Shakespearean tragedy. When I began doing theatre artist-in-residence programs at schools, I found most scripts written for children were too simplistic and trivial for young people anxious to perform real drama, so I began adapting my own versions of myths, legends, and great literature in a way that retained sophisticated themes and language that was challenging. Some of my favorite writing has been adapting oral histories - the stories and experiences of real people - into docu-dramas like Dreaming Again and Neighborhoods. I’ve written poetry since I first discovered the joy of playing with words, and my current passion seems to be songwriting. What’s next? I’m open to commissions.
